John Brooks Tapped to Lead DM&E and IC&E Marketing
Sioux Falls, SD – Mr. John K. Brooks has been named Vice President – Marketing and Sales for the DM&E and IC&E Railroads effective July 1, 2008. In making the announcement, President and CEO Kevin V. Schieffer said Brooks had a long history of displaying tremendous energy and creative talent in a host of successful initiatives to grow the business and in solving problems. “He gets the job done, and works well with people. We are very fortunate to have someone of John’s caliber step into this critical role,” said Schieffer. “He has a great team to lead and I have great confidence they will bring us to new heights.”
Mr. Brooks started his railroad marketing career with the Union Pacific in 1994. In 1997, he moved from there for an opportunity to fill a key marketing role with the IC&E’s predecessor, the IMRL Railroad, headquartered in Davenport, IA. When IC&E acquired the assets of IMRL, Mr. Brooks was recruited to stay on with the new railroad and has been the senior marketing manager in Davenport ever since. His most recent position was AVP Marketing General Merchandise. In addition to the railroad’s baseline business, Brooks has been the leading force in heading up the railroad’s PRB project coal marketing efforts.
During his time with the railroad, John has established himself as premier marketer to the benefit of the railroad and shippers alike. He has been instrumental in business development and has overseen the unrivaled growth the IC&E has experienced in recent years.
“We welcome John to his new position,” said Schieffer. “He has proven himself again and again over the years and we look forward to his continued commitment to making this railroad a model of success. With his help we will continue to develop business in our region with an appreciation for the customers and communities we serve.”
Brooks replaces retiring Vice President of Marketing, Lynn Anderson. “We will miss Lynn who has done a great job heading this company’s marketing efforts since start up,” Schieffer said. “But we are extremely excited to have John take over and lead the department into its next generation.” Brooks is a Bettendorf, Iowa, native and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Finance from the University of Northern Iowa. John and his wife, Beth, have two daughters, Anna, 8 and Emme, 5.
The DM&E and IC&E combined provide rail transportation services on 2500 miles of track in eight states in the upper Midwest.
